Carole Bloch has been involved in the lives of babies and young children all her adult life. She has taught music to preschoolers, was a preschool teacher and has two children of her own. She currently co-ordinates the Early Literacy Unit of the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa (PRAESA) based at the University of Cape Town. This unit does research, teacher training and materials development for young children in multilingual settings. Although her first book about her own child’s early writing development was written for adults, Carole has since written many storybooks for young children that have been translated into many different languages to help inspire a love of reading in Africa.
