Shaka's Computer

Price: R78.51

Shaka Robinson, his twin sister Katy and his friend Darry Mbana are trapped inside the magic computer called SAM. Will the guardian of the web, the monster tarantula Chandira, let them escape alive… will she come out of the computer with her army of monster insects and take over the world? How can they stop her? And what secret does she guard? Does she know who murdered Professor Sam Starlight, the inventor of SAM?

Helped by the computer’s mouse, Squeeky Lee, the children must use all their wits to get through the computers maze before they can uncover Chandira’s deadly secret – and then try to defeat her by working out the riddle of her “third eye”.

But if he ever does get out of the computer, Shaka knows his future looks bleak. He has to undergo a crucial reading test with fearsome Mr Langman, the school inspector, known as Langman the Hangman…

SAM has been teaching Shaka to read, but he has such a weird reading problem it’s unlikely that he will ever pass the test and be promoted to the next grade. Will he be doomed to stay in his grade forever? Only the fighting example of Shaka the Zulu King, the boy’s ancestor, can show him the way.

About the author:
Jill Morsbach hold a BA degree in English and Philosophy from UNISA and a first class BA Honours degree in English literature from Rhodes University. After leaving teaching, Jill joined The Department of Nature and Environmental Conservation as a media liaison officer, and was primarily involved in writing reports, press releases and articles.

Although she admits to writing stories for as long as she can remember, Jill only started to take her writing seriously in her mature years, when her husband gave her a computer in 2001. Inspired by the imaginative potential of the computer world of virtual reality, and the exciting possibilities for stories in the new South Africa, she wrote her first children’s novel, Shaka’s Computer in 2002. In between completing drafts of her first book, she has completed several more children’s fantasy stories and has recently commenced work on her first novel for teenagers.

Shaka’s Computer is Jill's first pre-teen fantasy novel.
